Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's, July 4th — these are the weeks when every dog boarding facility in Boston fills to capacity. If you're planning holiday travel, the time to book is now. Not next month. Not when your flights are confirmed. Now. Premium facilities with limited capacity — the ones worth using — book out weeks in advance, and wait lists fill fast.
At Pawmenities, we intentionally limit holiday capacity to maintain our care standards. We don't add extra dogs to squeeze in more revenue — we maintain the same staff-to-dog ratios and space-per-dog standards that make our regular boarding exceptional. That means Greater Boston pet parents who plan ahead get the best experience, and those who wait often face a scramble for alternatives.
When to Book by Holiday
Thanksgiving: Book by mid-October. The Wednesday-before through Sunday-after window is the tightest of the year. Many South Boston and Back Bay families travel for the full week.
Christmas and New Year's: Book by late October — 8 weeks minimum. The December 20–January 2 window is the longest sustained peak, and many families book the entire two-week stretch. Our Lynnfield, MA location fills first for holiday periods.
July 4th: Book by late May. The long weekend is shorter but the demand is intense, especially from Seaport residents heading to Cape Cod or the Islands.
Spring break and Memorial Day: 4–6 weeks advance booking. Less intense than winter holidays but still competitive at premium facilities.
What Holiday Boarding Should Look Like
Your dog shouldn't just survive the holidays — they should enjoy them. At a quality facility, holiday boarding means the same enrichment, socialization, and attention your dog receives on any other day. At Pawmenities, our holiday programming actually includes special seasonal enrichment activities — festive treat puzzles, themed photo sessions for your family card, and extra play sessions to keep energy levels managed.
The worst version of holiday boarding is a kennel that packs in extra dogs, reduces staff, and treats the period as pure revenue extraction. Your dog spends the week in a louder, more stressful, more crowded version of an already subpar environment. If the facility's holiday rate is the same as their regular rate but the conditions are worse, you're subsidizing their holiday profits with your dog's comfort.

Preparing Your Dog for a Holiday Stay
If your dog has never boarded before, don't make a seven-day holiday stay their first experience. Start with daycare visits to build familiarity with the facility and staff. Follow up with a trial overnight. By the time the holiday arrives, your dog will walk in like they own the place.
For dogs who board regularly, holiday stays are typically seamless. The routine is the same, the staff is the same, and the environment is the same. The only difference is the duration — and dogs who are comfortable in cage-free environments handle longer stays with ease because they're not confined or isolated.
Make sure vaccinations are current well before the holiday. Don't scramble for a last-minute vet appointment — some boosters need time to take effect. Our onboarding process will walk you through all vaccination and health requirements.
What to Look for in Holiday Boarding
Ask these questions when evaluating facilities for holiday boarding across Greater Boston:
Do you increase capacity during holidays? (The right answer is no.) Do you maintain the same staffing levels? (The right answer is yes — or more staff.) Do you offer holiday-specific activities? What's your emergency protocol during a holiday when regular vets may be closed? Can I get photo updates even on Christmas Day?
At Pawmenities, the answers to all of these questions are what Financial District and North Shore pet parents want to hear. We don't cut corners during peak periods — we double down on care because that's when our reputation matters most.
The Chauffeur Advantage During Holidays
Holiday travel logistics are already stressful. Adding a pre-dawn drive to drop off your dog before heading to Logan Airport makes it worse. Our chauffeur service picks up your dog at your door — the evening before your flight, the morning of, or whenever works for your schedule. A professional driver arrives in a Mercedes or Range Rover, your dog is transported safely to our facility, and you head to the airport with one less thing to manage.
The same service works at pickup. Your flight lands, you Uber home, and your dog arrives shortly after — groomed if you added grooming services to their stay, and happy from a full holiday of play and attention.
For dogs who could benefit from training during their extended holiday stay, our board and train program turns downtime into development time. Track your dog's entire holiday stay through our client portal — daily photos, activity reports, and real-time updates even on holidays. Featured across major media and recognized by pet care industry awards, Pawmenities is the Massachusetts facility that treats your dog like family — especially during the holidays.
